Pay By Link via SMS
Need to send a secure payment request directly to a customer’s mobile phone? Pay by Link via SMS makes it quick and easy—whether you're using the Merchant Portal or integrating with our API.
Pay by Link via SMS
Send a payment link to your customer's mobile number from the Merchant Portal so they can open the hosted payment page and pay.
Before you start
Review Pay by Link Configuration to check your link settings. Follow Create New Pay By Link for the full panel-by-panel creation procedure.
Create and send an SMS payment link
- Open Payments → Payment Link in the Merchant Portal.
- Click Create Payment Link, then Standard.
- Complete Payment Details with the outlet, supported transaction type, currency and expiry date, then click Next.
- Complete Item Details with the item description, quantity and amount. Add more items if needed, then click Next.
- In Customer Details, select SMS. Enter the customer's first name, last name and mobile number. Enter an Order Reference if needed, then click Next.
- On Configure Email, choose whether to send an email notification. This is separate from the automatic SMS send. For email-template and preview instructions, follow Create New Pay By Link.
- Check the mobile number, payment details and expiry before clicking Create Payment Link. This action creates the link and sends the SMS automatically; no separate SMS send step is required.
The new link appears in the Payment Links table. SMS delivery depends on carrier networks, so creating the link does not guarantee immediate delivery.
Customer experience
- Your customer receives the SMS and taps the payment link.
- The hosted payment page opens on their device.
- They complete payment using an available payment method.
Review the link and its associated order details in the Merchant Portal. Follow Manage Payment Links to find a link, open its details or resend it.
Delivery checks
- Incorrect recipient details: Verify the mobile number, including the country code, before creating the link. Clicking Create Payment Link sends the SMS automatically.
- SMS not received: Recheck the recipient details and account for carrier-dependent delivery. Use Manage Payment Links for resend guidance.
- Expired link: Review its expiry and the resend guidance before taking another action. This guide does not establish whether resending an expired link creates a new reference.
Optional: Use another sharing method
- Follow Share a payment link to copy a link or share through messaging apps, social media or email.
- Read OneLink for reusable links with fixed or customer-entered amounts.
